Telehealth Consent

Telehealth Informed Consent

Kyden Counseling | Mack Kyles, LPC, MSW

This document describes the nature of telehealth services provided by Kyden Counseling and outlines your rights and responsibilities as a telehealth client. Please read this carefully.

What Is Telehealth

Telehealth psychotherapy involves the delivery of mental health services using electronic communications, including video conferencing. All sessions at Kyden Counseling are conducted via HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms. Sessions are 60 minutes in duration and are conducted via secure, encrypted video.

Benefits of Telehealth

Telehealth services allow you to receive clinical care from a private location of your choosing, eliminating commute time, reducing scheduling friction, and allowing greater discretion. Telehealth is clinically appropriate for a wide range of presenting concerns and is not a lesser form of care.

Risks and Limitations of Telehealth

Telehealth services involve certain risks and limitations that differ from in-person care. These include: potential technical failures (internet disruption, platform outages); reduced ability to observe non-verbal cues; limitations in crisis response at a distance; and the possibility that information transmitted electronically could be intercepted. We take reasonable precautions to minimize these risks through use of HIPAA-compliant platforms and encrypted communications.

Technical Requirements

To participate in telehealth sessions, you will need: a reliable internet connection; a device with a working camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer); a private, reasonably quiet space; and access to the secure telehealth link provided at the time of scheduling.

Your Responsibilities

You agree to: participate from a private location where you will not be overheard; maintain the confidentiality of any link or access credentials provided; notify your clinician if technical difficulties arise; and disclose your physical location at the start of each session so that appropriate emergency services can be contacted if necessary.

Emergency Procedures

Telehealth services are not appropriate for psychiatric emergencies. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. At the beginning of your clinical relationship, you and your clinician will identify a local emergency contact and resource in the event of a crisis during a session.

Jurisdiction and Licensure

Mack Kyles, LPC, MSW is licensed in the State of Texas. Telehealth services through Kyden Counseling are available to clients physically located in Texas at the time of service.
